| Yahoo! Answers: How much money should i save to buy and renovate a house? I am looking to buy a home no more than $80, 000.I am 21 and plan to save for the next year and a half.I've already started looking at houses and in the area i live that price would buy me a pretty decent home.Im not looking to do major renovations except kitchen and bathroom to suit my needs.such as i love to cook and plan on volunteering with local kids organizations as well as my friends and family so i want double ovens, nice big fridge, lots of cabinet space, etc. im also tall so i need a bathroom that fits all my height needs..the rest of the house i choose i wont do more than paint and fix flooring as needed. about how much would i need to save to do this? as well as keep i good savings account |
| That's actually the most mature idea I have heard from a twenty one year old gal. I mean, I really admire you for such a wonderful idea. $80, 000 is good enough if you are not really that picky. Maybe you can choose a not so old house and just do some stuff like redecorating and renovating. I'm really sure your money will go a long way. Good luck to you. |

This is unusual act from a teenager, anyways, $80, 000 is a big amount to invest for a house. The amount may vary on the location and the furniture and fixtures. | You surely have a good head on your shoulders to already have a house of your own at 21 years old. Lots of us are still busy spending their money partying at this age. Regarding your question on how much money you should save to have your house or at least portions of it renovated, it largely depends on what materials you intend to use. If you're on a tight budget, you might want to consider cheaper but durable materials instead. |
| I would suggest you make a list of all the aspects of the house you would like to renovate, the estimated price for each thing (with some research going into each job), and then order them by order of priority, starting with the most essential things and then moving down to the optionals.
